I love mash-ups. You know mash-ups, right? They’re the creative little accidents of fate that happen when elements from two or more sources are combined. Mash-ups often lead to new and sometimes delicious innovations. Think Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups. In fact, I credit the success I had in my last career to the mashing-up of data mining skills learned in the financial auditing industry with the rules and regulations of the international trade industry. A mash-up of one of my favorite songs (“Two Thousand Years” by Billy Joel), one of my favorite poems (“The Golden Pool of Magic” – an excerpt from Robert McCammon’s Boy’s Life), and one of my favorite books, (Halftime by Bob Buford) produced one of my favorite posts, Motivational Mash-Up: You Are a Miracle).

So, given all that, you can understand why I’m excited to introduce you to another mash-up that we’ve created here at Happy Living. Blog Theatre is a first-of-its-kind mash-up of blog posts and theatrical performance. We’ll be bringing our most inspiring blog posts to life with rousing mini one-man shows. And you’re in for a treat because the star of Blog Theatre is critically acclaimed writer/performer Scott Barry. Scott’s first one-man show, Solo Gig Squared, about his attempt to play quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, was nominated for Solo Performance of the Year by the Bay Area Theater Critics Circle. The San Francisco Bay Guardian called the show, “A beautifully written and constructed jazz riff on success and failure.” About his most recent one-man comedy, Rise: Finding Love the Hard Way, the SF Weekly wrote, “Barry is a seasoned professional, and it shows in both the writing and the performance.”

In Blog Theatre, Scott will have complete freedom to share with you his unique perspective on many of your favorite Happy Living posts. Twice a month, Scott will write and perform a short burst of inspiration in an audio-only podcast format. Combining elements of poetry, modern spoken-word, and brilliant insight, he will explore the significance of each post, and what it means to him. Most importantly, Scott will examine how he can use the messages within each post to improve his own life. I hope Scott’s mash-up journey will serve as an inspiration for all our readers because our only reason for writing is to improve the health and wellbeing of the world, one person at a time… and that means challenging the way in which you, our readers, think, and encouraging you to create the life you aspire to!

I’ll be establishing a theme for Scott’s performances and then bundling three posts within each theme. For example, our opening performances will focus on how to turn inspiration into action in your own life. Scott will be performing his mini, one-man shows on these three posts:

We’ll be publishing a new performance every other Monday beginning January 9, 2017. Then, we’ll bundle the shows of each theme and offer them on iTunes, Stitcher, and other on-demand Internet radio services.

The schedule for the first half of 2017 will feature these themes:

  • How to Turn Inspiration Into Action in Your Life
  • Celebrating Powerful Women during International Women’s Day
  • Nutrition and Self Care
  • The Power of Love and Friendship

I hope you’ll tune in. I think you’re really going to enjoy Blog Theatre by Happy Living.
