Foundations of Health: Fall Favorites | happyliving.com

“Autumn, the year’s last, loveliest smile.”
(William Cullen Bryant)

Each season brings fresh starts and new inspiration. I love the energy of fall, that magical feeling of transition between summer and winter. A few of my favorite things about autumn are sweater weather, apple cider, and cozying up on the couch to watch college football with my husband. (Go Buckeyes!)

In the spirit of the season, I am sharing bits of inspiration and fall favorites for our foundations of health.

Foundations of Health: Fall Favorites

Physical Fitness
Embrace the cooler temperatures with a long hike. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy in the park during a lazy afternoon. Find new fall recipes to try like this gingered carrot bisque or pulled pork pumpkin chili.

Mental Fitness
Prepare for the busyness of holiday season now by cultivating good self-care habits. Carve out some alone time, take a bath or extra long shower, indulge in a big mug of tea, or start writing in a new journal.

Spiritual Fitness
Review your current spiritual practices. Can you do more (or less?) to connect with nature, church, and your inner spirit?

Financial Fitness
Create a budget for the holidays. Donate your time or resources by giving what you can, when you can. Revisit your estate plan. Begin thinking about your financial goals for 2016.

Love
Connect with someone influential from your past and let them know how they impacted your journey. Do something unexpected for a loved one – send flowers, pick up groceries, or surprise them with a car wash.

Adventure
Explore where you live with a day trip or staycation. Brainstorm dream adventures for next year. Visit a new restaurant, take a class, or try a new hobby.

Significance
Cuddle up in your favorite spot and read through our Something Significant interview archives. Reflect on your end-of-year goals and personal philosophy on significance. Set aside time to ask yourself what makes your heart sing, how can you prioritize your dreams and give back to the world?
