Something Significant: Elise Blaha Cripe | happyliving.com

“I am a firm believer that every few years one needs to shake one’s life through a sieve, like a miner in the Yukon. The gold nuggets remain. The rest falls through like the soft earth it is.”
(Amy Poehler)

It is always impressive when a person can turn their passion into a thriving business. Today’s Something Significant interview is with Elise Blaha Cripe, an inspiring blogger, podcaster, and entrepreneur with a passion for goal setting.

Elise’s positive attitude and creativity are commendable, but what’s even more impressive is how she has turned her love for “getting things done” into a business. Her latest endeavor is a wildly successful planner called the GET TO WORK BOOK that helps her clients put their goals to work.

Tell us a little about yourself and how you got where you are today?

Today I am a blogger and small business owner in San Diego, California. I recently launched a day planner/goal setting workbook called GET TO WORK BOOK. My journey here has been a decade in the making! I’ve been blogging and experimenting with products and business adventures since December 2005. It’s taken a lot of attempts to find a product I’m super passionate about and that’s connecting with folks.

How has significance played a role in your journey?

I think if you’re going to do it: DO IT. Make it real. Make it important. Ask yourself, “What’s the point? What’s the takeaway? Why am I doing this? What do I want to learn? Why I am sharing this? What do I want others to learn?”

Was there a specific moment or situation when you became aware of those things that are most significant to you?

In my personal life, I think when I graduated college and decided to move across the country to live with my then-boyfriend (now husband of 5 years). I was making (a somewhat out of character) choice to choose love. I think when I had my daughter I realized I could no longer tackle everything business-wise and had to be more selective about how I spent my time.

In my business life, I am constantly choosing what will make the most lasting impression and what sort of brand I want to be building. I’m always considering a post or product’s significance.

What obstacles have you faced in your pursuit of significance? How did you overcome them?

Most are self-inflicted as I figured out what I really wanted and needed to be doing. It’s just been about trying (and trying again) to find the best fit.

What is one thing you wish you knew 10 years ago?

That it all works out! ;) I wasted a lot of time stressing over little things. I also wish I could tell myself not to look at or compare my journey to others.

What is one hope you have for the next 10 years?

I hope to teach my kids (baby #2 is due in November) that creativity is a huge part of life. I hope to show them daily how loved they are. I hope to expand GET TO WORK BOOK into a larger product line that helps people cut through the crap and get down to the most important things they need to be working on.

Are there any books or resources you would like to recommend to our readers?

Two fun ones… 5: Where Will You Be Five Years from Today? by Dan Zadra and What Do You Do With an Idea? by Kobi Yamada.
